Can money really buy you happiness?

I used to look through all of the brochures and entertainment guides and wish that if I could buy all that stuff it would make me so happy, I set some goals and planned ahead with my professional career.
I now have the massive TV in my bedroom, thousands of dollars, a sports car, a successful business and I have only just turned 19. Eventually everything gets boring and you want more, so can money really bring you ultimate happiness? or am I just gonna want more and more...

it makes things easier but it's not the ultimate in happiness. i thought the same thing. each time i made money, i wanted more. when i made $100 an hour ($4,000 a week), i thought that would do it but it didn't. so, i said $250 an hour ($10,000 a week) would surely do it but it didn't do it either.

try helping others. you'll get a sense of satisfaction like no other "high".

Money can't actually buy you happiness.... sad but true.

It sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders if you've managed to acquire all this by the age of 19. That's a great thing! But I'd be willing to bet you're working so hard to replace your maybe unhappy feelings with 'stuff.'

The only place you'll find happiness, my friend, is within. I know that sounds cliche, but it's true. You're young enough that it should be easier. No years of old habits to bust through for you! You're in a prime place to be asking this question.

Look inside and ask yourself why you want all the things that you have, and why those things are no longer satisfying. What is it that you really, really want? Keep asking yourself that question until you get the real answer. Is it love? Is it understanding? Is it support? Is it friendship? What is it?

Once you get that answer you can begin to unravel the feelings around it and put aside those feelings which make you feel anything but happy and fulfilled. Realize that no matter how much stuff you have, you'll never feel complete because we are on a journey. This race will never be won so slow down and enjoy your tv and your stuff and your friends. Enjoy the mornings and the afternoons and the evenings. Just enjoy. That's the key to life, right there.

Happiness???? Depends!

Money will surely buy you a lot of toys and girls though!

Look at Bill Gates, would he get pretty girls if he had an ordinary salary?

If you are bored why not take some time off to do something for someone else! In the old days men would often join the military or peace corps and take off and see the world for a while. Perhaps you can volunteer for a charity. Earthwatch is one charity you can consider - all sorts of stuff you can volunteer for and it is a tax deduction for most people in the free world.

In the really old days, men would work hard and put off buying a lot of luxuries to save money for their retirement. Now days with credit so easy to get (and ruin) most young people have all the little toys immediately but no cash in the bank!

In my opinion, cash can't hurt! But, I have one sister, and my hubby has 3 brothers and 3 sisters, and they have all said at one point, they'd give anything to be as happy as we are, we've been together since I was 13 years old ( I'm now 44) and we are so close, we love each other dearly. That in my mind is something that you get in life if you are truly lucky! Money means nothing if you don't have someone to share it with. We were both unemployed for 9 months this year, and we had it hard, believe me, but we both saw it through together. I hope you can find what you are looking for, and if you are half as lucky as we have been, great. I hope this has answered your question flower xx

Money actually buys temporary happiness because as you said you get bored with the material things after awhile. The happiness from money actually comes from security, not things. It's your health and relationships/family that equates to happiness because without them, the money is useless. Your ultimate happiness begins on the inside.

No, but it can make a down payment on a lot of fun.
