I'm 18 and I've been hosting at restaurants ever since I first got a job when I was 16. With being a full time student I work as much as I can, I get the most hours out of all the hosts but still that is only 15 per week. Since I make minimum wage which is $7.25 here, needless to say I don't make much money. I would really like to serve, but here in Alabama you have to be 19 to serve alcohol and not 18 like everywhere else.
I want to be able to move out of my parent's house but first I need to start making enough money to live on. What would be a good supplementary or even replacement job for someone my age?

Can't recommend a job for you since different people like different things, but check the classifieds in the news paper and check snagajob.com and monster.com these are some really great job hosting sites that will let you apply for a job of your choice in your local area. Good luck!

you're already doing all you can without hurting your grades. You need those high grades to be able to get a job so don't jeopardize them. You can move out once you graduate (and have chosen a career in which you'd be able to make money). Do you know accounting, like maybe you could get a hotel job. You could work at walmart, or if you have a decent running vehicle you could work at a popular pizza shop (some pizza delivery guys here earn $35,000 a year). Maybe you could become a runner for a large law firm or a file clerk there. How about working for a moving company (since you're a student you'd know who is moving in or out of the dorms) or for a campus furniture store (where you could deliver and set up the furniture). Stores are hoping for customers this year for the Christmas holidays therefore if you apply at popular stores in your area you might get hired. Generally to live on your own you need to earn about $12 an hour these days, and that's basic plus would need aobut $1500 upfront. So if I were you I'd make sure I made good contacts (like people with careers, minister, neighbors), work toward the chosen career, and not leave home till I started a career job.

Stay home, the best money you can make is the money you don't spend.

Go to college far away from home. Live in the dorms. Use financial aid, student loans, scholarships, whatever it takes to get a good education.
