Are ads creating a potential for dangerous combinations?

Lately, I have been seeing these miracle results (white teeth, less wrinkles, etc.) due to the combination of two "free" products, and the women are from Chesapeake, VA. I am from Chesapeake and find it interesting. I can see maybe one, but there appears to be a pattern.

These ads are mostly for products that don't work, so dangerous combinations might not be too likely (and if the product was really "free" why would the company be paying to show the ad?)

Also note that the ads automatically show people who supposedly are from your local area - so for example if you were in California, the same ad would instead say the women were from a town in California near you. They do this because they know it makes people more interested in the product.

But logically, what real difference does it make whether the women are near you or not?
